We're not in Kansas or South Dakota or Nebraska anymore! Actually, we are in the Hunan province of China in a city of many people but a city that doesn't host an airport. However, we sailed in on the world's fastest train traveling at speeds over 200 mph...smooth, new, sleek! The taxi ride here from the train station, however, revealed to us that we were now in an environment steeped in traditions from the past like outdoor markets, bikes, rickshaws, but now blasted into the future with cars and buses.
There seem to the casual observer to be no road rules whatsoever. It is not uncommon to see large buses honk and scurry along right beside some helpless but unconcerned person on the bike. Dust is flying, people are speaking loudly, but all seem excited to see the foreigners. Thankfully, we have our daughter at our side who speaks their language as she tells them this is her mom and dad. We smile when they tell her that we look so young! Keep it up! It works for us!

Pictures to follow....
