Esther Strasser ...You have left us today. We are happy that you are relieved of your suffering and confinements but we will miss you. I know it was difficult for you to communicate with us but we knew you recognized us. The last time we visited you you reminded Dale to take his hat with him.
I will remember you whenever I drink Red Rose Tea. We drank a lot of that at your house and you even ordered it for your kids and their families. I remember Harold remarking at that table, "A little tea would sure hit the spot," and you would get up from the table to serve us all.
You often sat with a pencil in hand working on crossword puzzles. You were the puzzle master. You loved to read and you would often talk to us about some of the current issues you were pondering.
As a grandma, you always made sure there were a few special treasures for the grandkids ....like those plastic boats in a plastic bag you stored with your clean bath towels. Those boats were just waiting for the kids to appear. There were a few children's golden books stored in that drawer in the living room.
Your Violets flourished on the table in your living room. Your homemade buns were delicious. But it's been awhile now since you have been able to enjoy the earthly goods but you will be enjoying yourself a lot by now in that perfect place where you will be able to hear again and sing and probably even leap with joy.

Mom, these two reflections on Grandma have brought me to tears again. Thanks for reminding me of these memories in writing.
